Kale, Banana, Avocado, Lime and Oats
45g kale (I used the curly sort but either would be good)
150g banana (1 large one)
45g porridge oats
Juice of 1 lime
100ml homemade yogurt or 2 tsp Chia seeds
2tsp agave syrup or other natural sweetener
A handful of ice cubes
You know what to do……..
Kale is amazing, and it grows here in St. Lucia.
- Kale can provide you with some special cholesterol-lowering benefits if you will cook it by steaming, or use it raw as in our smoothie. The fiber-related components in kale bind together with bile acids in your digestive tract. When this binding process takes place, it’s easier for bile acids to be excreted, and the result is a lowering of your cholesterol levels.
- Kale’s risk-lowering benefits for cancer have recently been extended to at least five different types of cancer. These types include cancer of the bladder, breast, colon, ovary, and prostate. Kale is now recognized as providing comprehensive support for the body’s detoxification system. New research has shown that the good stuff in kale can help detox at a genetic level. For those of you dairy intolerant, use 2 tsp chia seeds instead of the yog but blend everything really well first and wait about 5 minutes after adding the Chia seeds. They absorb liquid like nobody’s business and will turn your smoothie into a lovely pudding consistency.
This quantity is enough for 2 generous portions. We had it for Sunday morning breakfast and it kept us going nicely until lunchtime.
